You can read my work bio here (http://www.maya.com/web/who/bios/who_bio_knauer.mtml)
I work for MAYA Design (http://www.maya.com) in Pittsburgh, PA, US which is providing the 1st Cavalry Division of the US Army with data necessary to make their deployment in New Orleans (http://www4.army.mil/news/article.php?story=7839) effective. So far we've been able to provide GNIS data, hazardous chemical facility data and are working on getting data on utility lines, water treatment facilities etc... They have requested point data on emergency service providers and I've started the process of trying to see if there is any organized data collection effort underway.
We will be entering this data into the Information Commons (http://www.maya.com/infocommons) so it can be published on the Web or accessed through other applications like the Army's distributed GIS/collaboration system (CPOF (http://www.mayaviz.com/web/industries/military/industry_mil_darpa_cpof.mtml)). Once this data hits the Information Commons, it will be able to be visualized on maps, output to statistical programs, etc. via an open architecture that has been developed to ensure that data flows to where it needs to go without being stalled by structure and proprietary systems.
