People in New Orleans are being bused to Houston which is often farther from families and friends in unaffected areas. There are many people who did not have the resources to initially leave New Orleans and are now further from family/friends and arranged housing.
Our focus on putting people who have been rescued and registered into safe and friendly environments.
The main source of transportation will be buses from Houston and Atlanta, and possibly Lafayette to main metro centers and then individuals transporting evacuees to outer areas.
Our Mission: To transport evacuees, who are without transportation resources, from staging cities to family, friends, or coordinated housing in a safe and timely manner. What We Do: - Operate a nationwide volunteer-led transit network - Transport evacuees from staging cities to confirmed housing - Welcome and utilize untrained volunteers - Accept sponsorships for designated purposes only What We Don't Do - Coordinate temporary housing matching (please contact KatrinaHousing.org for this) - Operate Search/Rescue or enter disaster areas - Pay any of our volunteers or organizational staff - Accept funds for general unspecified purposes WHAT WE DESPERATELY NEED: BUSES BUSES BUSES BUSES
