Summary
feel free to update this summary from your memory of the call
- began with background information about project
- discussed roles of key team members, see resources below
- discussed goals of both peoplefinder and shelterfinder projects
- peoplefinder: connect evacuees with those in search of them
- shelterfinder: create a list of shelters, associated contact information, and idea of how many people are there so that volunteers in this relieve effort can make better informed decisions
- external messaging must be clear and consistent
- discussed which interfaces should be used for searching data entry
- discussed which platforms would be used for continued development
- discussed conducting analysis/evaluation of project efficiency and effective to improve the next go at it
- discussed pros/cons of distributed and consolidated databases
- discussed how we should handle privacy
Decisions
feel free to update as some decisions may not be definitive
- regarding search and data entry interfaces
- until katrinasafe gets up and running:
- use katrinalist.net for searching data, distribute HTML form to other sites so that can search katrinalist.net
- use data entry forms on katrinalist.net
- after katrinasafe is up and running:
- use katrinasafe data entry forms. they will provide a client for use by Red Cross shelters, which only covers 20% of the shelters. (I'm not clear on whether we promote the other 80% to use that client too or if they should continue to use katrinalist interfaces)
- (I'm not clear what we decided about search interfaces katrinalist.net or katrinasafe.com)
- until katrinasafe gets up and running:
- regarding further development
- development should continue to link evacuee and shelter data.
- development should occur on an opensource platform - RData appears to be the likely candidate
- regarding security
- access to CSVs and outbound PFIF data should require authentication (i.e. a password-protected page)
Action Items
feel free to volunteer
- organize call for deciding on which platform to continue development Asun
- organize press media call through peoplefinder list
- organize call regarding privacy. include this group and others working with this data
- define clear and consistent external messaging
- standardize katrinalist search interface and distribute
- create password protected page for CSV download and outbound PFIF feed
- schedule weekly meeting for same time next week
Resources
- Contacts-Leads (from RTF doc that Karen sent to list)
- PFCoordination wiki page for high-level overview of various project threads
