Apr 12, 2007 - Longbeach, MS - Disabled firefighter and family needs help

Disabled firefighter and family needs help getting out of fema camper....

Do you know of any help for our situation? My fiance is a disabled/retired firefighter/emt for 18 years and in 1986 as captain of Picayune Fire dept. He was injured in the line of duty cutting a person from a wreck with the jaws of life, he has saved many many lives, he has served our country for many years, he was also a marine. Now he is the one in desperate need. Can anyone help? We are from Picayune, MS but lived in Longbeach, MS when Katrina hit as renters. Like so many thousands, we lost everything that we had. Of course things like cloths, shoes and food are in need in this area but the most important thing to people seems to be finding permanent housing. Rather it be rebuilding what they lost, finding an affordable rental or buying or building a new home. Everyone just wants out of these trailers, espically the campers. Living in a camper with a family for nearly 2 years is very hard on us. We all struggle with worries about putting food on the table and cloths on our backs, but its so much more doable than trying to find housing in a place where so much of the real estate has been destroyed, the prices are unreal and people dont know what to do or where to go. While we steadily have fema asking us what we have planned for the future. Most of the people here just live day to day hoping and praying that something will come up to help their situation, most don't have internet or knowledge of any help that might be availabe, most people in trailers or campers dont know where to go or what to do, most were renters and the only help seems to be for people that owned their home when Katrina hit. It is from a total lack of money, everyone that I talk to including myself could solve the housing problems for ourselves with money, some need just a few thousand to get their lives back on track. Most of the people that I have talked to and my family as well were doing great financially before Katrina and now are in terrible shape and having to ask perfect strangers for help just to survive, it's really sad down here. People just want to have a home to go to, and a bathtub to get in and bedrooms and closets. God we miss that so much. Personally, we are living in a FEMA camper park in Picayune. My father lives in one in Pass Christian, and FEMA lets us all know regularly that it is temporary. Luckily, we have been fortunate enough to buy a piece of land but are now in need of help getting it ready for a house or mobile home. It needs clearing and a septic tank and electric, we can get community water. There is no way that we can come up with the money to even get the land ready, must less build a house. The downpayment was over $12,000 which took us a long time to save. The bank won't loan us anymore until we pay the land paid off, which will be years. I know everyone is not in the same situation but I do know that there are thousands of people here that live in campers, that were renters and can no longer afford the rent prices. It will be years before there is enough rentals rebuilt for the prices to start to drop. I don't know what the people here will do, none of us have any answers. Nothing here is normal anymore ,we see the destruction everyday, and my fiance is retired from 18 years on the fire dept.(he has seen a lot) and we are both still in shock and awe everyday at how wide spread the destruction is and how many peoples lives are hell now. It is just unreal. It seems like it happened only a few months ago, because we can't seem to move on and get out of these trailers. Housing is what we need more than anything. If people do rent something that they can't afford, then they can't pay for lights, gas and food, so we just stay in the trailers and keep waiting for something to come up. Sorry for rambling.

If anyone can help us, please email me at lavignechanda@yahoo.com Chanda LaVigne or call 601-916-2171

Apr 04, 2007 - Gulfport, MS - Water damaged home needs repair

I posted about our home last year on a couple of groups, but my Mom's health got worse than it usually is; and we were unable to follow up very well. I sent the info that the people who e-mailed me requested, but never heard back from anyone. It's just my Mom and I, and we don't know how to go about getting help from the right people.

We really do need help though, and would greatly appreciate any of the help that we can get.

The home my Mom and I own that's in the Orange Grove area of Gulfport, MS is in a worse state than it was when Katrina struck. The insurance won't pay because there was a wind exclusion on the policy that we didn't know about. They say since the wind blew some shingles off the roof, that the water damage from the water that got in wouldn't be covered.

As for the damage to the house, it's got massive water damage in the walls and ceilings in just about every room; and massive water damage in the attic There is mildew and mold on the walls and ceilings also....We haven't been able to stay in there for a long time to look around because it's been so hot in the house due to the air conditioner being broken; and it's gets so very hot and stuffy in the house that we can only stay in there for short periods at a time

We don't qualify for any grants because our home didn't flood, and we can't afford to pay back a loan because we are both sick and on SSI. We just don't know what to do now, all we want is to live in our home again; but we don't know how to go about getting help to repair it.

I'm posting this here in hopes that there might be someone reading it who may know of a group or etc. that can help my Mom and I.......

Sincerely,

          Jaclyn

Feb 26, 2007 - Family living in trailer looking for home assistance

My family, like so many others, lost everything in Katrina, just like we did years ago in Hurricane Camille. My mother is almost 80 years old and received little money from insurance and grants. There are 5 people in my family and we have lived several places since Katrina hit. We lost absolutely everything, including our cars. We had no full coverage insurance on any of them. We are still in a Fema trailer and have no hope of rebuilding where we lived because of the high price of insurance. We cannot find a house to buy with the money we have. If there is anyone out there who could help, please contact me. If we could find some land to build a house on, maybe someone could donate the labor to help build a home for us. We would gladly pay for the materials but we don't have enough money to pay for the materials and the labor. I would gladly help with any labor that we can. We don't want anything fancy. Just a home where we can live together. I will do anything possible to get a home for my mother. I don't think she will be here for much longer if she keeps on living like this and never getting any closer to getting into a house. I am sooo desperate to help her that I will do anything I possibly can, but I can't do it all by myself. My mother is a widow and has no one else to help her. Like I said before, she will give as much as she can to go towards a home. Please contact me at mmb0219@cableone.net.

Jan 13, 2007 - Homeless in North Carolina needs rent assistance

I am not a Katrina victim but could not find any other place to post. I am desperate to find a place to live in or near Sylva NC. I have a job but I am afraid I will lose it soon if my employer finds out I am living in my car. I have lost everything and just need someone that can help me just get a fresh new start. I had to leave a very abusive situation and I have been showering and getting ready for work at a rest area and sleeping in my car. I just need someone to rent me a small house, I can pay rent just need a fresh new start. The only thing I have left in this world is my dog and we are trying to survive in my car but it is getting colder. There are no shelters in the area I am living. I got a job here so I need to live here. If anyone has a place to live or can donate anything I would appreciate it. I would be able to pay everything back in time. I had to leave my last home with only the clothes on my back, my car and my dog. I couldn't leave my dog to suffer the consequences of my leaving. My ex has shot my credit but my employer would be willing to vouch for me that I have job security. I don't want her to find out that I am having to live in my car. I was fortunate enough to have my laptop in my car when I left. I charge it up at work and have found a hotel close by that I can log on at. I am so afraid someone is going to find out that I am living in my car. I am all alone and have no one I can rely on. I am not asking for a hand out but just a jump start. I would love to find someone who might have a small home in W. NC that they would be willing to rent to own or some other similar circumstances. I have read everyones post and even though I can't help them financially I am praying for everyone on this board. thank you for your time. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Dec 29, 2006 - Need Help Moving Back To New Orleans

Me and my family have been struggling to survive in Houston since we first arrived here after Katrina. I finally lined up a good job in New Orleans that will help us get back on our feet. I'm supposed to start on Jan 2nd, but I didn't realized it costs so much to rent a U-Haul. I was expecting to pay $200 at the most, but they want $700-$900 and I just can't possibly afford it. I am hoping to find someone willing to donate a truck or maybe loan me the money to rent a U-Haul truck. If anyone is willing to help or just have an idea as to how I can get a cheap truck, please call me @ 504-274-7880 or email me at dyce12345@yahoo.com.

Thank You.

Dec 12, 2006 - MS family needs help for Christmas and home contruction

CHRISTMAS HELP

Hi, I am a mother of two. Times are really hard since Katrina. I just found out yesterday that my job of almost ten years is playing out. The company is moving to another state. It is going to be a very slim Christmas around our house. The children are 10 and 13. They are old enough to understand hopefully. My husband has had a few jobs here and there but it's hard to find a good one since the storm. We are still living in a Fema camper trying to rebuild our house ourselves because cost of materials and labor are so much. Any help would be apprciated for Christmas or in the rebuilding of our house.

Dec 09, 2006 - Need Christmas gifts for 2 small kids

I am needing help this Christmas to get my two kids some gifts. Since Katrina we have been struggling and I dont want them to wake up Christmas morning with nothing there for them. I had to decide to either pay the electric bill this month or a Christmas. It has been very cold up in today it was 17 degrees. I had to choose the electric bill. I just wish I can have a small tree with a few presents for them. Anything will help I have a 8 year old boy and a 3 year old girl. Toys or clothes are welcomed. Sizes 8 year old boy wears med. Shirts & 8-10 Pants. 3 year old girl wears 3-4 toddler outfits. Any toys will be fine. My son likes baseball, cars, basketball any boy toys. My Daughter likes dolls, dora, elmo, nemo, barbies, loves to play dress up. Also if maybe not to much to ask maybe a gift card or something to like Walmart or something to get just a small tree for them. It would really help out just to se them have a great big smile on Christmas and not be upset when they wake up to nothing at all. Please if you can, anything at all .... Thanks Danielle, 806 Lakeview Ave, NW Cullman, Alabama 35055, michaelson806@yahoo.com

Nov 18, 2006 - MS family needs financial help - Christmas cards welcomed

I am a school teacher in Pass Christian MS, my husband is a police officer for the city of Gulfport. Since the storm all four of our children have moved back in with us. We are having trouble financially because the cost of living went up 30% and our salaries did not. Just providing food is taking a major part of our income. Two of our children are working and two are still in school. Our youngest son is studying to be a preacher. The two that are working help financially as they can. We need a small car for our daughter whom is going to school. Any other financial help would be greatly appreciated. It is very hard to stay sane when you have been through a storm like this, we were in seperate locations because my husband worked through the storm, I was at my parents, but we were both in the water most of that day. We suffer from post traumatic stress and somedays the stress of money problems can be overwhelming. Please keep us in your prayers and if you can't help financially send us a Christnas card to brighten our spirits.

Nov 15, 2006 - Fraud warnings from a hurricane victem

ALERT

My name and address have been on this website for a couple of months now begging for help. Any kind of help. I have received over 100 emails from people who are "very concerned and want to help". Every email wants to know what they can do and EVERY email is a SCAM. They are from people who are trying prey on people in need from a diaster. They "claim" that they will send you a check (usually for some large amount) BUT that whole check is not for you. They want you to cash the check and then take a specified amount of it for self and then you are to get a money order for the remaining amount and send that to someone else that THEY specify. Usually, the original check or money order is bogus and the bank doesn't catch it right away. Then YOU are out the TOTAL amount of the original check but the scammers are raking in YOUR money in the deal.

Others, want you to give them your banking information so that they can do a "wire transfer" into your account. DO NOT DO THIS. They will have all of your personal information and steal your identity and the only thing that you will be left holding is an empty bank account and "the bag".

These scammers are out there by the millions. The emails come in costume of people who are actually worried about us and sincerely want to help us. IT'S ACTUALLY A BUNCH OF BULL!!! My first form of "HELP" appeared in the form of 4 American Express cheques, each made out in MY name, each made out in the amount of $500.00. I was to cashed all 4 of the cheques but I was to only keep $1000.00 and forward the other $1000.00 to a specified person. I immediately was suspicious and went to my local sheriff's department who found out that all of the cheques were stolen from American Express. AND THESE CHEQUES WERE SENT TO ME BY SOMEONE CLAIMING TO BE A "REVERAND IN THE LORD".

I have not YET received legimate help from ANYONE. And I really felt that we (the actual survivors of Hurricane Katrina and Rita) should be VERY MUCH aware of the "TRASH" that is out there trying to make money off of people like us.

Thank you

Nov 14, 2006 - Working family in MS needs assistance to get a home

Hi my name is Robin Reynolds I live in Pearlington, MS with my husband and 3 children. We currently live in a FEMA trailor trying to get back on our feet. Due to Katrina my husband is the only one working right now and is only making minimum wage so its been very hard for us to try to purchase a home or mobile home. We have tried to look for an apartment but they are way out of our price range. We did get some FEMA money but very little because we were renting a house and had to split it because we had shared a home and split all utilites. I'm not very good at asking for help. We have tried really hard to do it our selves but found out we couldn't, but we are desperately in need of a home. So, please if any body knows of anyone who can help me, contact me at babychic83@aol.com

Nov 01, 2006 - Family needs furniture

My family is in need of furniture. We have 3 bedrooms, two baths, living and dining room and a family room. We were just blessed with a house through the fannie mae program for 18 months and an option. I have been unemployed since Katrina. I made it through by nothing but grace. God has provided us with manna for 14 months. This house was such a huge blessing for me and my family that I have to believe him for everything that goes with it. Praise God!

Oct 13, 2006 - Mother still needs help returing to home /beware of fraud

Help is still direly needed / any help in these areas would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you. Came to this Katrina help site before and posted. Many many e-mail came with offers of help but all that was sent was counterfeit money orders, checks, and gift certificates. I had the bank check them out before I deposited, thank God I did. All offers had instructions to send money to another place after cashing. It would have left the bank account overdrawn on this end and all the money I would have had yo pay, including the money I would have sent on as they requested. Greed has people taking advantage of people already devastated. So beware of this. All I received were fakes. I don't think anyone wanting to help, will ask to have money sent when they could easily do that themselves. That was why I was so leery and had it checked out first. The coast is deluded with these kinds of offers and our e-mail addresses were gotten from this Katrina Help site. So people beware.

Not one sincere offer has come. My mother is in great need. Any who is sincere please respond.

Oct 12, 2006 - Single mother and 2 yr old face eviction from home

Revision as of 21:48, 12 Oct 2006

Hi, I need assistance badly. I am a single mother of a 2 yr old little girl. I am to be evicted within a week from my home. I had a small cleaning service and have ran out of work. Nothing has came along for me. I came to this site through a search engine, so I do not want to mislead anyone. I am not a victom of Katrina. I am a victom of abuse and had no choice but to let my husband go, I feared for my life. I need some help to get back on my feet, possibly relocate to a larger city so I can find more work. If anyone can help me please

email me @ mindyscleaningservice@yahoo.com I would appreciate anything, any help I can get. I had no idea what else to do. I have tried all I know, this is a last resort for me. I am sorry for all of you that have lost anything from Katrina & please do not be offended by this post, and me not being in your shoes while posting it. But I have no option but to post somewhere, I need help greatly! My baby and me will be on the street within a week, I have to try to get some help somehow. Thanks for understanding.

Oct 12, 2006 - Single mom needs help..Metairie, LA

My name is Suzanne Weisdorffer. I am a single mother raising my 12 year old boy. Two weeks before Katrina hit, my son and I put our entire home's contents in storage because we were looking for a new place to rent. We did not get renter's insurance because it was just going to be for about a month. While looking for a place, we were staying at my mother's house. Katrina hit! My storage was wiped out and my mother's house was destroyed. We live in Metairie, LA, just outside of New Orleans. I had my son when I was 18 and it took me that long to get the stuff I did have and now it's gone. I put myself through college while raising my son and became a teacher. After the storm, not enough children came back and I lost my job. I am now living in a FEMA trailor with my son. I got a job working in the local mall but am not making nearly what I need to survive. Any help you can do would be deeply appreciated! Our lives are starting over. I feel 18 again with no means to give my son what he needs. God bless Suzygage@msn.com

Hi, My name is Jacqueline Rosol, and I am a 23 year old expectant mother of my 4th child forced to live by financial boundaries in a little town called Sandersville, GA. Any help would be appreciated, and I can provide pictures and factual proof of my plight if anyone is skeptical. Phone (478) 247-3941 or email ericrosol27@yahoo.com.

Sep 25, 2006 - MS family needs help rebuilding home

Hi, we are a family of five in Picayune, MS and are in need of help in rebuilding our home. We had to completely gut our home because my daughter is asthmatic and highly allergic to mold and mildew which we have. Any offers or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Email me at (tiphaniw2005@yahoo.com). Thanks so much.

Sep 2, 2006 - Evacuee in Houston needs college assistance

Hi. My name is Amber Willis and I am a single parent and a junior in college where I currently attend Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas. I was displaced by Hurricane Katrina from New Orleans, Louisiana where I was attending college at the University of New Orleans. I have recently been hit with out-of-state fees which I cannot afford and going back to my old college is not an option because I would not have anywhere to live in New Orleans. It is also hard to continue transferring schools without losing credits. If I could get some financial help for college that would be a huge relief. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Sep 01, 2006 - Prayers for recovery

Hello,

I started this request asking for financial assistance to help me return to New Orleans but my heart became full with thoughts of people less fortunate than myself. My job is calling me back. I don't have a place to live and my funds are limited. There is not very much assistance for people like me. I have a job, I didn't lose much because I lived in an upstairs rental. I refused to lie and said I lost anything to receive something. It's funny, I had been pre-approved for a mortgage loan and was looking for a home when the hurricane hit. Instead of money, I'm asking for prayer for people like me. Though we have jobs we had to maintain our lives in the places we found temporary shelter. We now must return to our churches and our jobs. Some people have moved on and decided to remain where they are. But God still has a plan for the salvation of New Orleans. Pray for me to find a home. Pray for me to stay on the battlefield. And most of all continue giving to those who truly need it. There are people who need your assistance more than me. With your prayers I know God will continue take care of people like me who knows the salvation of souls are more important than a cry for financial assistance. Thanks!!!

Aug 31, 2006 - Family in Picayune MS needs assistance

Hello,

My name is Ronal McKee Jr. I am a native of New Orleans. I reside in Picayune MS. I have three kids (Antrinette 13, Aaliyah 8, and Justin 6. We've been having hard times hurricane Katrina. The majority of our furniture was damaged, but through the kindness of people and Church, we were able to get donated furniture. We had to move away out of our damaged apartment into a house that we really couldn't afford. I went from having a good job before Katrina to a job that I thought was good until my work hours were reduced to 20-25hrs per week. I am also a diabetic. The cost of medicines, medical bills, and raising three kids has become very difficult. I never thought that I would ask anyone for help, but now I have to swallow my pride. I really can't ask my family or friends because they too are going through bad times. Any financial help or information would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Aug 29, 2006 - Elderly person needs help finding apartment in Dallas, TX

I am writing this request on behalf of my elderly uncle. He was displaced due to Hurricane Katrina. He had previously been living with another family member until they recently found housing in another state. So he has been placed with me. I would not mind having him here except I am expecting a new child soon and the bedroom space is not going to permit. He would like to get his own apartment. I have been searching here in the Dallas area-but most of the subsidized/low income housing apartments have a long waiting list-most 1-3 years. I would appreciate if anyone can help in any way or know of a place that will accept him.

Thank you,

Aug 28, 2006 - Mother of two needs home/car/computer repairs, office job, and $ for bills

Hi Everyone..

I have seen the way this board has helped so many over the past year. But now it's my turn to post a request!

There are so many things going on here.. Ok.. I am single Mother of 2 kids, she's 14.. he's 12!

We are currently being forced out of our FEMA trailer and back into our damaged home.. because FEMA decided that other people need it more than us.. so they are taking it away from us here in the next few days! Even though we don't have any heat.. and the a/c doesn't work so well.. (damage to the duct-work underneath..) and there are electrical problems.. lights flicker and I'm constantly flipping the breaker for the lights at the whole one end of my house when they go out..and light bulbs have literally EXPLODED throughout the house!! (UGH)

The wall in the back of the shower apparently got water after the hurricane - before we were able to have the roof replaced.. The back wall of the shower is basically crumbling now!! (Really disgusting)

A lot of the carpet throughout the house is ruined from water getting in around the doors and windows.. but FEMA didn't even list that on their damage report!!

I was told the whole place needs to be re-leveled.. doors don't close right anymore! I dunno!

So.. that's basically what's going on with my house..

You know the saying "When it rains - It pours?" Well, I think they made that saying up just for me.. lol

On top of all the FEMA stuff.. and the house.. I have recently lost my job.. getting wayyy behind on everything.. I went to the WIN Job Center as well as everywhere else..

I'm at risk of getting everything shut off.. and a few payments behind on my land.. they are going to repossess soon if I can't get it caught up..

I took the first job that I could get, but i'm serving hot food at a Bar and Grill OUTSIDE.. in this 103 degree heat and business is really really slow.. (NO FUN).. {so not much money and a real pain to boot}.. AND they are going to be closing it in about a month or so.. so I will be out of a job AGAIN!!

I have still been looking for something else because i just can't physically do this for long.. (I have Fibromyalgia and Rheumatoid Arthritis) I know.. can it get ANY WORSE?? lol

Well.. yea.. it gets worse.. car broke down.. got it fixed.. and had it back a whole 2 days before it broke down again! Tag is expired and I had to let the Insurance run out.. not that it matters since it's not running!!! ugh

I started back to school for Biotechnology in January.. but I was taking all of my classes online.. for convenience reasons.. I finished up my Summer semester and now I just had to quit for a while.. because lightning struck - and fried my computer.. and my dvd player.. lol.. can you believe it????

And NOW.. I have the added stress of my Dad.. He found out he had lung cancer (for the 2nd time) and just had surgery right before Katrina to have MORE of his lung removed.. Still had his staples when we evacuated for Katrina.. Anyways.. they said they were pretty sure they got it all.. and tested his lymph nodes - they were all clear!! So.. they put him on Chemo just to be safe.. all his hair fell out.. it was really sad!! And he hasn't been able to get off of the oxygen since.. even though the doctor said he should be able to! ??

Soooo.. we thought he was gonna be ok.. but I called him a couple days ago.. and he was being admitted into St Francis Hospital in Columbus, GA.. They think he has Pneumonia (which could be deadly with him having just a little over 1 lung).. and they did a PET scan.. said they see some spots in his chest and abdomen... I am SOOOO scared.. they are doing more tests this week!! But it's just killing me waiting!! And I can't even get there with NO CAR!! UGH

He's been a real trooper though.. made it this far!

Sooo.. believe it or not.. I'm REALLY not big on complaining.. or telling everyone my problems.. but it did kinda feel good to get all of that out and off of my chest.. I'm sure you didn't wanna hear all of that.. probably a little hard to believe all this mess can happen to lil ole me all at once.. lol.. but this seems to be my life lately!

I am really starting to think I have my own personal black cloud that just follows me everywhere!!!! =(

And all of this has been especially hard on the kids.. it just seems they haven't been able to have a bit of fun.. they see me going through all of this.. and stay pretty stressed out with me.. we are a really really close family!!! So.. I think that's probably been the worst part about all of this for me.. Having to put them through this!! Britt just had her b-day in may.. and austin's was the 15th of this month.. and they see what i'm going through.. so they didn't even mind not having a big party - or the gifts they really wanted!! They didn't even complain!! They sure are great kiddos!!

Anyways.. If anyone has any tips for me.. I'd GREATLY appreciate it!!

I could use one or more of the following: lol

heat and a/c work.. electrician.. shower.. an office job - making enough money to support my kids.. =) $$ help or if someone knows of a program that will help with bills or utilities.. auto mechanic.. computer repair.. and some darn CALGON!!!!!!!!!!!! haha

Thanks in advance...

Aug 26, 2006 - Mother of three needs replacement for stolen car

This request is not for me. I work with a mother of three kids who was displaced by hurricane Rita. Everything that could go wrong has. After trying to make ends meet, having one child with a learning disbility and one child with a potentially fatal disease and then having to relocate and start all over again would be enough to break anyone's spirit. She has perserverd, the kids are starting to make friends, join in sports activities and enjoy their childhood when her car was stolen at the grocery store. She had to use part of her rent money for a rental car and she needs transportation for kids and will only be able to keep the rental for a week. What other options are available? I don't know where she should turn for assistance. I will help her out for her rent but what about another vehicle if the insurance does not cover it? I am just looking for a way to help her out because I just don't know. Any suggestions? Please email me with any suggestions. Thank you.

Aug 23, 2006 - Alert: Check scam from Poland

SCAM ALERT SCAM ALERT SCAM ALERT SCAM ALERT

There is a "person" posing as a REVERAND from Poland offering financial help to Katrina victims. He uses the Lord to suck you in and then tells you that as soon as he gets the donations, he will be sending the donations to you to "share". You will then get 4 official looking American Express checks in the mail all 4 of them made out for $500.00 each. (You will get them almost immediately even though he claims to be in Poland) Each of them he will have put your name on them. You will then get an email from him telling you that he wants you to take $1000.00 of that money and send it to someone in Poland who is having some sort of surgery done and needs the money. REMEMBER: HE'S IN POLAND. When I questioned why he would send all 4 checks to me made out in MY name if he wanted someone in the area where he's from to get the money. Why not just send me $1000.00 and the other person $1000.00? He skimmed over it DEMANDING that I send the money IMMEDIATELY. The only thing that I did IMMEDIATELY was go to the St Bernard Sheriff's Office where I found out that the checks were no good. Apparently they were stolen or something. So, what WOULD have happened is that I would have deposited the 4 checks into MY checking account and written out a check for $1000.00 to this so called "person in need" and spent all kinds of money sending it to Poland and then when the checks didn't clear the bank, I would have been liable. And that money would have come out of my account, BUT the jerk in Poland would be $1000.00 richer. BEWARE

Aug 8, 2006 - Michelle Blethen: We are in desperate need of inside doors and base molding

My name is Michelle. My husband and I live in Gulfport Ms. Like so many, we too lost everything that we owned to Katrina. We received very little help from FEMA. We were denied an SBA loan, and have exhausted every resource available to us. Contrary to popular belief, the government is doing very little to help. FEMA will begin to collect the trailers that so many of us call home. Now we are in desperate need of donated interior doors and base molding. A church showed up and took measurements for the door four months ago. I have tryed to reach them but they are no longer here. We are trying so hard. We had a little girl 18 days before the storm and now we are using everything we have to finish our house before FEMA takes our temporary home. Any donation of interior doors would be greatly appreciated. My email address is mailto:Bowtigirlm@aol.com

THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS

Jul 26, 2006 - Crystal Favre: We are in desperate need of building materials

Hello, my name is Crystal. My husband and I live in Waveland Ms. Like so many, we too lost everything that we owned to Katrina. We received very little help from FEMA, were denied an SBA loan, and have exhausted every resource available to us. Contrary to popular belief, the government is doing very little to help. In fact, in Feb. of 07, FEMA will begin to collect the trailers that so many of us call home. We are frightened to think about what will happen to us then. Without help, I am sure that our home will not be livable by then. We are proud people and do not like to ask for help, but at this point, we have very little choice. My husband is rebuilding our home with his bare hands, but now we are in desperate need of donated building material such as sheetrock, wiring, plumbing, cabinets, interior doors, etc. Any donation of new building materials would be greatly appreciated. I can be contacted through email. My email address is mailto:Imgizzmosmom@aim.com

Hello my name is Kassidy and my son is Kollin. I've managed to relocate and find a fulltime job in San Francisco, Ca. We've been living in a residential hotel far to long now. Its very expensive. We don't have a fridge nor a stove much less a microwave. Meals are costly since we can't cook. My son has come down with a bad kidney infection and is receiving treatment. Working and raising my boy has taken a toll on me. We need help coming up with first, last months rent, and deposit to move into a stable apartment. We would love help with the purchase of a bed and a microwave. Please let us know what we can do to better our situation. I do work fulltime. I'm not sitting at home feeling helpless. We are doing something with our lives. We just need a little help to speed up and ease the process. Thank you, God bless! mailto:lilkollin@yahoo.com

Jul 13, 2006 - Family of 5 needs help in Gautier, MS

Family needs help!!! My name is Heather Taylor and I have 9 and 11 year old girls, and one 6 year old boy. We were flooded during Katrina, but not in a flood zone and without flood insurance. Therefore, the insurance only covered the basics. My husband works full time and we have taken alot of extra money just to make our house in livable condition, since the insurance didn't cover any of the flood damage, which was significant. We are in need of some appliances, mainly refrigerator, stove, and washer. In addition, which is a major stress factor of mine, we are two months behind on our mortgage and most of our utilities. We have applied for the homeowner's grant program, but it could take up to 90 days before any of that is finalized, and I don't want to lose my home as a result. I am asking for donations of any kind. My children will be starting school next month and I will need uniforms for them as well. If you know of any charaties that might be able to help, you can email me at mailto:htaylo1@aol.com or my address is

Thanks so much!!!

Mom needs help!!!! My name is Tonya. My mother is a 62 yr old single woman that takes care of her 3yr old grandson. She lives in Lake Charles LA - 615 S. 1st Ave, but is living with her brother for now at 2231 18th St Lake Charles LA 70601. We, her family, have done all we can to fix her house. It looks very good on the outside but the inside still needs work. The walls need to be hung. The floors need to be put in and some plumbing and electrical work needs to be done. She is also in poor health. She had surgery for pad about 1 year ago and we didn't know if they would be able to save her leg. I live in California - 14449 Begonia Rd #232 Victorville CA 92392. I spoke to her today to see how her doctor's appointment went. She said that her leg is swollen twice the size of her other one and they didn't know if she would be able to keep it. Her grandson, my nephew, is the one that keeps her going but she doesn't have the health right now to take care of him. I am going to try and drive out to pick him up and take him back with me. I to have health problems and financial. I have MS but I'm doing well. I'm not in a wheel chair yet and I get around pretty good. The pain is just bad. But I'm about family and will do whatever it takes within my power to help. If anyone can help her finish the work on her house she will greatly appriciate it. She is ready to get out of her brother and sister in-laws' house. We all know how living with the in-laws can be. It's not a good situation. Thanks for listening.
