We have started http://www.savingshelterpets.com/. We have people who can pull in GA and surrounding areas. WE want to help save at Roicy but didnt know anyone in that area. We raised $185 in 10 minutes to try to pull dogs from there last week and couldn't do it. If your group is interested in getting us information what needs to be done, costs etc.

Please post a message on http://www.savingshelterpets.com/

I have finished the site. Please see if you can help anybody. Rescues are considering the Cur, Boxer, GSD, Border Collie. Deadline will be 5 PM Monday, Dec 19 unless they decide to hold over, which they have not been doing. They have had problems with URI and kennel cough. They have new chemicals and have done a thorough disinfecting. Reminder to rescue that Virginia must have your non profit letter on file, and as of Jan 1, your adoption policies, your spay/neuter policy, and I think a follow up copy of your spaying/neutering the animal and a rabies shot. I got an email from her this am and think that is what she is saying. Following Katrina, there was some abuse from a couple of groups allowing individuals to pull under their name, so she is going to be more careful. Also, she says the huge volume of phone calls they have been receiving must stop. She reminded me that they are not an adoption facility but a rabies control facility. This will change some time in the future but for now, that is it's purpose. I know that my updates are forwarded all over the place. While I appreciate the concern of individuals from out of state and offers to adopt/foster if we can ship to them, this is NOT feasible, so please do NOT call the shelter and ask. Ditto for offers of money to the shelter to hold an animal. Unless you are in a position to get in the truck and drive down here immediately, or working with an org that is, please do not call the shelter. Also please do not call all day asking for the status of a certain animal. I usually try and find out and keep the site up to date. This overwhelming volume of calls could result in rescue and adoptions being stopped altogether. This is a great group of wonderful animals. I am especially worried about the Heelers since they have a really tough time getting out of Roicy and are almost always overlooked by the public. I absolutely adore this breed.....they are fantastic. Not sure of the breed of the dog identified by the shelter as a Pyr/Aussie. Looks like a Lab/northern breed to me but what do I know. The new chips have lots more paperwork, so they are asking that rescue be there by 3 PM.
