Eric's Dog Blog: Oily Dog Found
OILY HAS BEEN LOCATED AND TURNED OVER TO DON R. [1] (http://www.ericsdogblog.com/)
Lisa Wilson, Austin, Texas, was instrumental in the search since she created the Oily Dog website (http://www.oilydog.org/) that received so much attention. Carolyn Spence created flyers and spread the word all over the place... Read full story here: http://www.ericsdogblog.com/
Roicy/Lafayette, LA pics are up
Date: Tue, 6 Dec 2005 22:49:21 -0600 From: "DH Payne" <dhpayne @cox-internet .com> Forum: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LouisianaDogCatRescu/ Subject: Roicy/Lafayette, LA pics are up. Deadline unless held over will be Thursday, Dec 8 at 5 PM with PTS Friday AM.
Missy has done a great job of posting pics of the beautiful new animals at Roicy. Please take a look and see if you can help anybody. There are some gorgeous adult cats. Lots of very adoptable dogs, and my favorites...the black Labs. They will be the toughest to get out. Poor Lucy was owner surrendered. They must have not cared too much about her because she has a leg that might have been broken and never attended to. It does not bother her at all, but she is a big, black, imperfect dog with two days to get adopted during the holidays. She will need a miracle. Please get the word out about these wonderful animals. Deadline will be 5 PM, Thursday, Dec 8 unless held over. They are asking that rescue be there by 3 because the new chip involves more paperwork.
Thanks. Debbie

Bridgette Siles needs help finding 4 dogs left behind in St. Bernard Parish
Date: Tue, 6 Dec 2005 05:48:34 EST From: BoNeProCessOR @aol .com Subject: HELP!
PLEASE help me!
I saved my babies from drowning only to be told I had to leave them in a strangers attic near where we were rescued ...I am from Chalmette in St. Bernard parish ....I have 4 Chihuahua's ...a mother and her 3 male pups.
The pups are mixed with malteese/ toy poodle/ pom ....they could be mistaken for small terrier mixes. The female's name is Rat ...she is a 6lb long-haired chihuahua ...she is fawn and white ..white on chest and some mixed in the fawn colored hair on her back and white on her paws ...she is missing her four bottom teeth between the k-9's and she has double k-9's her puppies share the double teeth trait if her teeth aren't brushed regularly she will suffer from dental carries. She is nine years old and very sweet ....she was wearing a magenta and black tiger striped collar....
Her sons are: Bosco (weinnie) 1 1/2 yrs old white with tan on back from ears to tip of tail his tail is slightly fanned like his mom's he has two rows of teeth he and his brothers are mixed with toy poodle and Maltese ...Bosco's hair is slightly wiry in some places ...he looks like he is wearing a sweater he is long and weighs about 4lbs (no collar) he was clipped before the storm so, his hair may have looked like that of a smooth coated Chihuahua with hair growing back around eyes, mouth and around the neck and chest like a coat collar. His hair on his face around eyes makes him look like he has old man eyebrows ....and around his mouth makes him look like he has a Fu Man Chu mostache. Bosco has peach colored tear stains.
Mikey is 9mos old and is curly haired, kinda fluffy ...mixed colors ...beige underneath and Charcoal grey/light gray and beige on top ...the back of his ears are a rust color He has a beige mask around his eyes, and some beige around his mouth some beige can be seen under the top hair, which is charcoal grey ...Mikey has an underbite and looks like a "EWOK" from "Star Wars" he is about 5lbs. He was wearing a black cat collar with rhinestones.
Poody is also 9mos old with cream and white curly hair med/long in length, a little fluffy, and around his ears and his ears are beige ...he has less noticable beige spots on his back, they are more noticiable when he is wet ...a big one at his rump and a smaller one near his back and one by his shoulder. ....poody lifts his leg unusually high to urninate... Poody has peachy colored tear stains, he weighs about 3lbs ...he was wearing a green cat collar white and yellow fish bones and mice.
Please if you can help in anyway please let me know ....their last location was in a ripped open attic on Keane Dr in Chalmette right off of St. Bernard hwy and located right across from C.F. Rowley elementary school I was notified that they were rescued and the address on Keane Dr. is 13 Keane Drive per the rescue team that went to search again and found no marking on the house just that dogs were in the attic at one time and were rescued before the water went down ....I have been looking since Sept. 6th when the shelter were I was residing recieved outside communications.
My phone number is (985)792-1536 I am in Ponchatoula, LA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ponchatoula,_LA). My other email is mailto:bridgette_e_siles2000@yahoo-dot-com Any help would me deeply appreciated.

Katrina Transport Plan
Date: Tue, 6 Dec 2005 16:29:25 -0600 From: "Lynn Szymurski" <richlynn @cox .net> Subject: Katrina Transport Forum: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Katrina-Pet-Rescue-info/
Hi,
I've come up with a plan. And others might like to follow. I posted to Showdogs and to Showsibe that transport over the holidays, when everyone is travelling, would really be helpful for those dogs that need to go to their forever home, foster home, or other rescue. I've had several responses from all over the country. If you have any animals that need to move, post them either to the Yahoo list, or send to me with the Subject: Katrina Transport. I have a special folder to receive that mail, so I see it quickly. I have already sent out the Poodle's route, and the Rottie/Dobie route. I have offers to help from Southern CA to Maine.

Canadian Katrina Rescue Mission--Update
Date: Tue, 06 Dec 2005 07:15:01 -0000 From: "larry_pinell" <larry_pinell @yahoo .com> Subject: Canadian KATRINA rescue mission--UPDATE!
Friends, we are well underway with plans for rescue teams supporting New Orleans Animal Rescue, Best Friends in Tylertown, Mississippi, and now, more urgent needs for hands-on volunteers and evacuation of shelters in Biloxi, Mississippi.
Team One: Leaves this Friday, Dec. 9th. Driving straight through to Tylertown, picking up dogs, and coming home again. Anticipated return is Dec. 17th. We will scoop as many as we can - however - there are stringent restrictions for Canada re: heartworm, pitbulls, owner surrenders etc. We're awaiting our travel papers from shelter - first van is funded - dependent on how good a deal we can get at either Enterprise or Discount for mileage - any exec contacts out there?!?!?:) ; We'd love a second van and a second set of drivers - anyone interested, please contact me asap. Note: anyone else wanting to drive down and evac dogs independently/different dates, please call us so we can share resources and information. We've got logistics figured out... Mitch Nadon, 416.585.8988 mailto:m.m.nadon@sympatico-dot-ca (@sympatico.ca). Any tips from other advocates who have done large transport before are welcome! (Lori thanks for all your common sense tips ... invaluable...)
Team Two: Amazing response - plans coming along nicely and we'll have updates upon first teams' return. Tiffany Longarini in Toronto: 416.593.8683 email: mailto:tiffisfunny@hotmail-dot-com (@hotmail.com) coordinating.... At this point we can conservatively say we have 20-25 people who are very serious about going to NO. Many of them are from rescue groups, humane societies and vet clinics. ARNO and Toronto teams now looking at the possibility of chartering a bus for the way down. The other option is to arrange for everyone to participate in rideshare - either way we need all the funding we can get. If well organized, we can make a HUGE impact with all these volunteers. We plan on dedicating several people strictly to transporting animals to Northern Shelters within the US to create much needed "vacuum" . Given the fact that we'll have over 20 people and 2 weeks on the ground, we should be able to move hundreds of animals and support the rescue and rehabilitation effort all at the same time!! Tiffany is working long and hard to ensure we get maximum results through application of all resources...shelters currently refusing rescues due to being at max capacity...
Funds: please forward cheques to M.M. Nadon, 3-1061 Bathurst Street, Toronto, Ontario, M5R 3G8. We are fully accountable to the shelter taking the dogs, and through them, will be issuing charitable donation receipts in new year. We would also benefit from any individuals who have travel points to spare to help fly in some of Team Two. gift cards to Petsmart or Petco are great ideas too!
Vet supplies: Vets have been great - donations are coming in. Heartworm SNAP tests most critical, then vaccines. other supplies: gravol, horseties/strong leashes, towels, cat/dog pads, cleaning supplies, collars, ID TAGS, shampoos for small animals, green garbage bags, crates for each trip (approx. 15 medium-large dog crates (please ensure crates are in working order before donating) fresh water, catch poles, particle/surgical masks, neosporin. To donate contact Laurel Toews, at 416.769.8062 mailto:laureltoews@rogers-dot-com (@rogers.com). All boxes must be labeled in detail for quantity, description of contents, and wholesale value if new goods, or used if used goods. Manifest must state supplies to be used specifically for veterinary use in Katrina Animal Rescue and must bear the name of issuers.
Customs: All diligence has been done with Customs Cda and US, CFIA, FDA, FEMA - everyone. As long as we play by all the rules, there should not be any surprises. We will be crossing at Buffalo, as they have processed quite a few rescue groups at this point and know the drill.
Photos: a reminder of those in need: http://www.animalrescuefront.net/content/RescuePhotos/tabid/54/Default.aspx
Story from the ground: ...situation in MS pretty dire. There were two major counties affected by Katrina and these took a direct hit from the hurricane. They were leveled...... the Hancock County Shelter is operating out of Waveland which took a direct hit and then flooded from the storm surge... prior to the hurricane this shelter was a nightmare for the animals... high kill rate... since the hurricane not one healthy animal has been put down because volunteers routinely go there to help. Biloxi, MS is run by a good group of people but they are overwhelmed by the numbers of animals coming in. They need help desperately and are receptive to it. My understanding is the local Holiday Inn is letting volunteers for the shelter to stay there free of charge. I am trying to confirm this as we speak. They need help... if any of your folks can help in MS. call me directly at 508.240.4262. Please let them know that if I don't answer it is because I am providing rescue as well and will return their call as soon as possible. One more thing...Tylertown has been out of room for almost two weeks and there's a bottleneck which is preventing NOLA or MS to save any more animals. It appears we are very close to exhausting the resources we have in this country to shelter theseanimals. Any help you can provide will be most greatly appreciated! Chris: http://www.animalrescuefront.net/ mailto:mclaughlin35@gmail-dot-com (@gmail.com)
Next steps: This is last correspondence until Team One returns. Hopefully the dogs and rescuers down there are getting "the vibe" that more help is on the way.
Spread the word: for needed badly needed funds and volunteers. Call local newspapers, friends, acquaintances and advise crisis is not over and that these animals are still in dire need.
Sign Petition: http://network.bestfriends.org/Petitions/Detail.aspx?pn=2
I'm sure I'm forgetting a million details here...Remember, this email inactive for duration of Dec 9-17 team one trip... Thanks to so many of you for dropping by, sending money, giving crates, everything!
For our absent friends and all the animals, m.
