I had been home for over a month in New Orleans and when my cable was reconnected, the first show I watched was Heroes: Hurricane Rescue. It was very tough to watch, they were wading through the streets that I've learned well during my 36 years of living in New Orleans. The second show behind it was the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship '05 Show and the Siberian that won Best of Breed and represented Siberians in the Working Group Ring was the AKC Champion daughter of one of my champion males, who evacuated New Orleans with me. It was the first time I had ever seen her, she is living in New Mexico, so that did cheer me up. But I'm having a hard time even writing about that day, so I'll close.

No, I can't close yet. The Best Friends petition is right on the nose. Go to http://www.bestfriends.org/ Please do not ignore this petition, the truth about the donations to the National Humane Societies is a very hard truth to bear. One of the National HS thought they would receive about $2 million in donations when the hurricane struck. Imagine their surprise and amazement when they received over $18 million in donations, which has far surpassed their expectations. Other HS's, on their level, received the largest amount of monetary donations ever also. Some of the societies are putting the money where it needs to go, into the rescue of ALL of the Gulf Coast rescues. Others are putting their monies collected into other projects all over the world. The money they collected was for KATRINA (then RITA) rescue, and if it wasn't specified on their donation "For Katrina rescue", it was fair gain on their part to use. The animal shelters everywhere need either repair, or completely start over again, as the New Orleans shelter must. It's called the LA SPCA, which is a misnomer, it should be the New Orleans SPCA, but I do always point out the fact that it is the only shelter in New Orleans. It was flooded, completely wiped out their records, computers, office equipment, etc., not to mention their vet offices. The City of New Orleans is almost bankrupt because of bad politics in the past. And I mean the past 30 years. LASPCA had to beg for $1.2 million before the storm just to operate. The city doesn't pay its responsibilities, and that goes for it's Police, Fire and EMS Dept. I know this because I'm married for the past 28 years to a N.O. Fire Captain. The LASPCA has to be completely rebuilt and land bought. What does the National HS do? Give them a couple of million, if even that. That will just barely pay for vetting the animals rescued. You can flame me all you want, I'm zipping up now, but I know the truth, I've followed where the money goes, and it was on their websites. Guess what, those pages are gone. But there is such a thing as screen shots, copies of a webpage. The volunteers that come down here have been doing most of it on their own finances, to do the dirty work that has to be done. And we cannot thank you enough for what you have given up for New Orleans, and the entire Gulf Coast, from TX to AL. I only hope that you don't face a disaster of this magnitude, but if you do, I will be there, and I'll do the dirty work. Just point me in the right direction. Now I'll close...
