Pasado update on the rest of the EDNAH dogs

Pasado update on the rest of the EDNAH dogs

All thirty dogs came in to Seattle and rested comfortably for a few days, allowing them to "chill" after their hectic flights.

Today, Kat, Pasado's Safe Haven's Sanctuary Director (and pitbull rescuer for 15 years) organized the first vet checks for all of the dogs. Ahmad, our Licensed Vet Tech, did SNAP heartworm checks on them and the outcome was very encouraging: 11 negative, 14 low-positive, and only 5 high-positive. The dogs will begin heartworm treatment this week. Kat photographed all the dogs for petfinder.org. They'll be added to the petfinder listings for the 25 animals we flew into Seattle in October. More photos will follow on this webpage.

We decided to extend Louisiana's date for owner reunions from October 15th to November 6th. Technically, all dogs who were in foster care through Pasado's are now able to be adopted. However we're still fielding many calls every day from owners.

Of all the dogs (and many are not pitbulls but mixes) we are having a trainer seriously look at 2-3 who may be aggressive dogs. But we don't want to give up without a battle. We have had individuals and corporations come out big-time to help us give these innocents the best shot at a good life. And that's what we commit to doing.?

The Babies who found their way to Sarah's Inc., Alabama. We want to thank Bill McLaughlin for arranging the Wells Fargo animal transport rig that brought 22 of our Arkansas dogs to Sarah Inc. in Alabama. This fancy rig had video cameras in the back (and microphones) to keep an eye on the pups all the way.

There could be no better place for these dogs than Sarah's. Rhonda, Sarah's founder, displaced all of her kennel area, set aside for clients for the holidays (how she pays for a lot of rescues) just to help the Arkansas Pasado dogs. If you'd like to make a donation to help her, click here. She treats every one like one of her own.

Cat People Needed in New Orleans!

*Cat People Needed in New Orleans!*

11/8/05--CALLING ALL CAT PEOPLE: COME TO NEW ORLEANS!

IF YOU CAN HELP, RESPOND DIRECTLY TO:

UPDATE FROM THE FIELD:

Animal Rescue New Orleans has joined forces with Alley Cat Allies to save literally thousands of cats fending for themselves on New Orleans streets. Starving and dehydrated, some are feral. Others are companion animals who slipped through windows or blown out doors in the aftermath of Katrina.

Animal guardians continue to contact us for help trapping their traumatized cats. Most are so afraid they withdraw from sight inside mud-filled homes or under trash piles. They will not even respond to the familiar voice of their own caretakers! Many of these homes are slated to be bulldozed. We fear for the safety of these cats... Will you help?

November 2: We rescued an emaciated cat living amid the debris of a destroyed home. This cat was experiencing liver failure by the time we reached her. Sadly, the cat died while in transit to the emergency clinic...

November 7: Three dead cats. Three separate houses. Two of the cats expired on front porches alongside empty food and water bowls. The other was found on a back porch where no food/water were available. These animals did not succumb to hurricane or flood. They died over the past days from STARVATION. Animals do not have access to food scraps in the trash. New Orleans is presently a city without its normal population, and thus without its normal garbage output. Puddles are scarce. It has not rained for over one month. Residents cannot sustain these animals because there are simply not enough residents in New Orleans.

Reserve days, weeks‹whatever you can‹to help New Orleans animals. JUST DO IT. All of your questions are answered below.

VOLUNTEER NEEDS/SITUATION:

We are assembling a CAT TRAPPING TEAM to capture these animals and reunite them with guardians. Once that task is completed, we¹ll trap other cats in areas marked for demolition. WE NEED:

  • People experienced with cat trapping.
  • People experienced with cat handling.
  • People skilled in caring for cats.

Bottom line? WE NEED CAT PEOPLE NOW!
