ROICY PULLS 3/13
Date: Mon, 13 Mar 2006 21:25:26 -0600 From: "Debbie" <rescuerealtor @cox .net> Subject: ROICY PULLS 3/13 Forum: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Katrina-Pet-Rescue-info/

- T-boy the JRT
- Brown and white Terrier with the blue eye
These are the only pulls that I am aware of. I am assuming that the others were all adoptions, but that would be very unusual, so there could be some rescue groups involved. The shelter just said adopted.
- 2 remaining brown and white Terrier pups
- Window pups
- RCA dog
- Doxie mix pup
- Stubby Tail Boxer mix
- Cocker
- Chi mix
- Dapple Doxie
- Tabby cat
- Grey Tux cat
We left eight dogs behind today. There have been rumors flying all over the internet that Roicy was shut down due to a Parvo epidemic, due to a Distemper epidemic, etc. This is not true. There was another shelter who has been having some problems and is shutting down for a few days but those animals were pulled in a huge effort by Muttshack. These rumors are very destructive as we have seen today. Louisiana is experiencing some disease problems as a result of the hurricanes, and this is not limited to shelters.
Lafayette is actually having fewer problems than some other cities but we should still take precautions. All animals should be up to date on vaccines, and any animals pulled from anywhere should be isolated...but that should be standard procedure for anyone who does rescue. Thanks to everyone for getting the word out about these animals. If the above were all adoptions, it is truly amazing. If any rescue pulled some of the above, let me know. There is donation money on the cats.

UNLESS HELD OVER MONDAY, MARCH 13 - PTS TUES. AM

PERMISSION TO CROSSPOST!
Most of the animals you see below will have one day to get adopted....TOMORROW, MARCH 13. A few of them are breeds that are in demand so they will be adopted or held over. The majority are not. The majority are little plain vanilla dogs who are likely to be passed over. GSDs even when perfect, have a tough time getting out unless rescue takes them. Well, this girl has an old jaw injury that her family never had fixed. So, even though she gets along fine, she is a large, imperfect dog on death row in a room full of little guys. Everybody wants the little guys. Well here they are, and I have only had inquiries on the dapple Doxie. The shelter will try and hold over but there are only 12 adoption dog kennels for a parish that grew by 60,000 following the hurricanes....and there are probably about 40,000 residents still here. So as much as they want to give these guys more time, there are are many in stray hold awaiting their turn, so there is just no room in this tiny facility. So, until the new shelter is built, which will be at least 1.5 yrs. from now, this will remain a high kill shelter which euthanizes twice a week. The only help for these animals is rescue....they have only a handful of adoptions.
I get many offers from individuals who are willing to adopt these animals but they need the animal shipped to them. There are no volunteers to do this. There is no foster program or volunteer program at Roicy due to the refusal of the risk manager for the city to accept any liability releases. So, unless you are in the position to get in the truck and be here by 3 PM tomorrow, or know someone here who is, it is not feasible. Due to the unbelievable volume of calls that the shelter is getting from throughout the country, please do not call unless you can be there by tomorrow. They are very understaffed and it ties up the phones so that the rescues who can be there can't get through. My suggestion would be to pick an org who pulls from Roicy and make a donation. If you are unsure of which ones do, contact me and I will send you a list. Even if they have no room to save one of these animals tomorrow, it will help with the financial burden they all have from pulling others from Roicy and will allow them to pull in the future. Puppy and kitten season are upon us, so we have several rough months ahead and without out of town support, the animals and the orgs will have a tough time of surviving.
Thanks to all of you who care about these animals.

Kaplan, LA: Three Dogs in Need of Rescue
Date: Sat, 11 Mar 2006 12:01:06 -0600 From: <grambo7 @bellsouth .net> Subject: Dogs IN need of Rescue/Kaplan, LA Forum: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LouisianaDogCatRescu/
PLEASE, PLEASE CROSS POST WIDELY!!
I have not had 1 offer for the 3 souls still left in Vermilion Parish Rabies Control. These dogs are doomed unless someone steps up to take them. Vermilion is a model of an animal shelter. The dogs you get from there are rarely sick....not even kennel cough. We have not had a parvo case from there in at least 2 years and I can't ever remember having a case of distemper. This shelter is CLEAN and well ventilated and sanitized twice a day, water bowl, food bowls, walls everything. So these are not diseases you have to worry about from this shelter. PLEASE.... ALL 3 OF THESE DOGS ARE VERY ADOPTABLE....DO NOT LET THEM DIE!!!
Also, we probably can get them transported very close to you if you are in the New England area.
- There is a small doxie/rattie puppy - 3 months old
- A basset beagle mix who is beautiful
- And a young black and tan pup who is short and stocky and very cute.
All 3 can be seen on my picture trail album linked below.
WEDNESDAY IS THEIR LAST DAY!!!!!
