Important meeting in NOLA for animal lovers on Feb 1
Date: Wed, 25 Jan 2006 21:51:58 -0800 From: Kate Danaher <katedanaher @animalearthhuman .org> Subject: **Important meeting in NOLA for animal lovers!** Forum: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Katrina-Pet-Rescue-info/
PLEASE FORWARD
January 25, 2006
Dear Animal Lover:
Almost 5 months ago, I came to New Orleans like everyone else as a volunteer looking to help rescue animals trapped in homes and on rooftops. Obviously, my planned 2-week trip turned into almost 7 weeks of rescuing and then months and months of coordinating the rescue efforts in New Orleans through trapping, reuniting, feeding homeless animals, etc. Along the way David Meyer, Pia Salk and myself founded Animal Rescue New Orleans (ARNO). This group was truly formed to keep everyone united in our passionate mission to save as many animals as possible. Since the formation of ARNO we have rescued over 2,000 animals out of houses and off the streets of New Orleans (not including the animals we all rescued prior to Oct. 1 when Lamar Dixon was open), have had dozens and dozens of reunites (including 9 cat reunions in the past 2 weeks!) and have fed the homeless pets on the streets by developing a very organized and effective feed/water program. The problem is that David, Pia and myself do not live in New Orleans and need to start getting back to our normal lives. The big question that everyone is asking is now what? What will happen to the homeless animals? Who will trap cats? Who will rescue dogs? Who will pay for spay/neuter of homeless cats? These are all crucial questions that must be answered.
Best Friends will be closing Celebration Station at the end of February (thank you Best Friends for hanging in there so long!) and most other groups left New Orleans months ago. The ONLY hope for the animals in New Orleans is YOU! Please come to a very critical meeting to meet David, Pia and myself. We will discuss the future of animal rescue in New Orleans, how you can help and will share with you a gift we will be giving to the animals of New Orleans!
We are committed to helping you help the animalsŠcome hear our plans and how you can help!

New: Katrina Fosters and Reunites Discussion Group
Date: Tue, 24 Jan 2006 10:33:18 -0800 (PST) From: Robin Siegel <pennyroyalnorwich @yahoo .com> Subject: Katrina Fosters and Reunites Discussion Group Forum: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Katrina-Pet-Rescue-info/
I just set up a new Yahoo Group called "Katrina Fosters And Reunites," a discussion group "for victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and those who foster animals for them. All fosters, adoptive homes, and owners who have found their pets are welcome. This group will not discuss the fairness of, or removal of pets from adoptive homes. This group is meant to be a forum to discuss health and behavior issues, as well as subsidies and other existing assistance."
Please feel free to forward this link to other owners, fosters, and adoptees.

Roicy pics are up.....deadline 5 PM 1/26
Date: Tue, 24 Jan 2006 20:42:53 -0600 From: "Debbie" <rescuerealtor @cox .net> Roicy pics are up.....deadline 5 PM 1/26 with PTS 1/27 unless held over Forum: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Katrina-Pet-Rescue-info/
Missy has posted pics....please see if you can help anybody. There are TEN cats, and in a shelter where it is very difficult to get cats out, this is a nightmare. They are all beautiful and sweet. One was held over from yesterday. There are also some great dogs. I am no expert, but the dog listed as a Border Collie/Lab may be a Pointer??? There is yet another awesome Heeler, a young Malinois, a couple of small dogs, cute pups, super sweet but scared GSD mix....just a great lineup. We have been so blessed and fortunate by out of town rescues coming for some of our animals, but we are pretty much out of tricks. Please try and make room, make a phone call and let someone know about the animals, or sponsor or foster for a rescue if you are local. This is going to be hard and it will take another miracle.
Thanks so much to those who have donated Karanda beds. They have gotten a few in, but have a long way to go. All sizes are needed. The strays are a little scared of them, but the pups think they are trampolines. They are bright blue, so they look so cute on them. For anyone wishing to donate, Roicy is listed as Lafayette Animal Control Center. Virginia is being very stern about having the employees disinfect, avoid wetting the dogs, etc. With the addition of these beds, it is hoped they will be more comfortable and stay healthier.
